A role is a set of permissions applicable to every project collaborator assigned to that role. By using roles, you don´t need to set every permission detail for each user, and you can update permissions for multiple collaborators by updating the role. Project roles are accessible for project owners, while role templates are available for all.

The "Roles" window is only accessible to the project owner (not shown in the menu for collaborators).

  1. From the "Roles" window, click "+ New role" (or "Create new role" if this is the first role in the project).

  2. If you have existing roles in your project (project roles), you can use an existing role as a starting point. Choose from the dropdown menu beneath "Predefined roles".

  3. Give your new role a name in the "Role name" field. 

  4. Add a description of the role (optional). 

  5. Set the permissions for the role (see "Set permissions"). 

  6. If you like, you can already assign the role to selected project members or groups at this stage. If you want to do so, you can check the "Assign this role to project collaborators or groups" box (optional)

  7. Click "Next"

  8. Select the Group(s) and/or Collaborator(s) to which you want to assign the role (optional)

  9. Click "Add" to save the role.

Only the project owner can create a project role.
